Tips for Buying a Digital Camera |
|
Auto-focus – More than 90% of digital cameras in the market come with auto-focus. Cameras without this feature probably don’t have it as a result of a manufacturer defect – bottom line, such cameras are probably not worth buying.
Go for Image Stabilization – It is going to cost you a little extra but it is worth it in the end. Image stabilization is a feature that is useful for those of us with shaky hands. It also allows you take better pictures in low-light conditions such as indoor areas. Some manufacturers also refer to image Stabilization as ‘Anti-Shake technology’. You can identify both features by looking for the ‘IS’ or ‘AS’ letters. Don’t miss the standard AA batteries – When buying DIGITAL CAMERA it is to your advantage to get one that uses standard AA batteries. A proprietary battery is not only difficult to find when you travel overseas, you might get stuck in the mud when that camera model goes out of production. Choose one with standard batteries so you can purchase new ones whether you are on vacation in the Caribbean or Canary Islands. It isn’t all about Megapixels – A lot of people tend to go with the notion that the higher megapixels a digital camera has, the better picture it produces. While this is true to an extent, it isn’t always true and here’s why. Digital cameras have lenses that take in a lot of information with every shoot. Things like color, brightness, image saturation, contrast, white balance and several other technicalities don’t depend on the megapixels of a lens. We’ve seen 12 megapixels shooting pictures that appear to be worse than that taken by an 8 megapixel camera of quality build. If you love taking pictures as a hobby, you should go for a DIGITAL CAMERA with 8MP and above but this isn’t the only feature to watch out for. Get a Digital Camera with long-term manufacturer warranty – Ok. A refurbished camera is a no-no except it comes with warranty. If not you are taking a big risk spending so much money on something you might not be able to repair should it develop a fault. Optical Zoom Lens – Cameras with a powerful optical zoom lens usually come at a higher price in the market. Nevertheless, a zoom lens is an important feature on any camera. They allow you take accurate pictures of smaller objects without having to crop the picture and lose some of its resolution. |
