Taking Care of your GPS Device

GPS systemGPS NAVIGATION SYSTEMS are already an important tool in our daily lives. From finding your way around an unknown neighborhood to obtaining an alternative route to escape a traffic situation, these little devices are now commonplace in our cars, homes and mobile phones. GPS devices come in different shapes and sizes. The stand-alone devices cost anywhere from a few bucks to a few hundred bucks. It’s only common sense for you to discover easy ways of taking care of your device so it isn’t spoilt before its time. We have outlined a couple of tips and how-to’s to help you keep your GPS device in top condition.

Purchase a Screen Protector – With the bulk of GPS  NAVIGATION SYSTEMS been operated by touch screen, chances of your device being one is on the high. If you have ever used a touch screen device whether it was a mobile phone or PDA, you would have noticed a slight decay in the sensitivity of the touch screen over time. Yes. Touch screens tend to wear out depending on how frequently they are used. The screen gets less sensitive to touch and you may find it difficult getting your message across.

Thankfully, screen protectors are available for cheap. These protectors keep oil, dirt and small particles from your fingers away from the actual screen. Once installed you still get the same level of sensitivity and everything should work fine.

Turn Off your GPS Device when Indoors – Overworking a GPS NAVIGATION SYSTEMS results in battery drain. You don’t get the best battery life and they begin to wear out over time. By turning off your device, you keep the batteries fresh for another time you need them. When not using your GPS for extended periods of 1 month or more, take out the batteries and store them in a safe cool place. Don’t do this without consulting your device manual to ascertain your device uses flash memory. Older GPS devices did not have flash memory so users lost all information once the battery was removed.

Don’t start your car with the GPS connected – A precautionary measure is to always disconnect your GPS device before starting the car engine. During the startup, process a slight power surge streams around your vehicle. This power is slightly above specifications for a normal GPS device and may begin to wear down your batteries over time.

Change Batteries Frequently – Do not wait until the batteries leak before you get them changed. Battery electrolyte introduces rust to the contact terminals of your device and may move inside to cause more damage based on how severe the situation is. Bottom-line. Remove batteries from your device if you would not be using them over an extended period.
