Extending Battery Life Tips for PDA and Smartphones |
|
Turn On Airplane Mode – Airplane Mode otherwise known as Flight mode is a feature that was created to give smartphone users the privilege of using separate features on a phone while turning off its wireless capabilities. Special environments such as hospitals, petrol stations and airplanes require you turn off your phones wireless capabilities so it does not interfere with equipment signals. When in airplane mode your phone saves a considerable amount of PDA BATTERY life because it does not have to search for wireless or roaming signals. Other phone features such as the music player, contacts, calendar, notes, and saved emails remain accessible in this mode. Use the Power Saver Mode or Lower Screen Brightness – Most PDA and Smartphones now come with a power saver mode. To extend PDA BATTERY life simply turn on power saver and the phone’s screen should go blank after a pre-configured number of seconds or minutes. For phones without a power saver mode, lower the screen brightness to 75% or 50% of its original capacity. If it’s still too bright continue lowering till you get a desired result. Turn Off Bluetooth – If you are not going to use your Bluetooth headset, turn off bluetooth on your phone. Some smart phones allow you configure an amount of time after which to turn off Bluetooth automatically. Turn Off Wi-Fi & GPS – Although connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi is sometimes cheaper (battery wise) than connecting via 3G and Edge, it still pays to turn wi-fi off provided you don’t have any web applications relying on it. The GPS Chip on a PDA/Smartphone is literally a PDA BATTERY drainer. Turn this feature off when not in use.
Email Drains Battery Life – Setting your smartphone to frequently update emails is a great way to stay in touch but poor way to save battery life. You can get additional battery life by turning off this feature or reducing the frequency with which the phone uses to check for emails. Let’s say changing the interval from every 5 mins to 1 – 3 hours means you are still in touch with work and friends and are also saving essential battery life.
